As in years past, election banners go missing

This is really childish behavior!

This morning, some jackass stole our Obama sign. What really bothers me is that this couldn't have been a random act of pre-Halloween childhood vandalism. No, this occurred when all the kids were in school. This means that it was done a by a grown person, probably one of my neighbors.

Sad. Truly sad.

Well, you know what? Nearly every sign that gets stolen, gets replaced (I plan on replacing mine, but I'm smearing the sides with Vaseline to exact revenge if it too gets stolen), and they aren't cheap.

That just means more money for my candidate.

Money that I am happy to spend.

But by far their biggest hurdle has been presented by one unexpected tactic of the elite liberal media: the follow up question.

And now, John McCain spokesperson Michael Goldfarb goes on CNN to make allegations about Barack Obama's anti-semetic friends, but then fails to come up with one name when pressed by Rick Sanchez.

CBS News has obtained a copy of the complaint that Frank Gwartney, a retired lineman in Anchorage filed last Friday, with Alaska’s Attorney General, Talis Colber in Juneau. “Palin ran on the platform of ethics, transparency and anti-corruption. I’m tired of the hypocrisy that exists in Government and people need to know the truth,” said Gwartney.

The complaint against Governor Palin, alleges Misuse of Official Position: “Gov. Palin attempted to and in fact did use her official position for personal gain by securing unwarranted benefits for her daughters...” All the allegations contained in the complaint are related to state reimbursed travel.

Panel blocks Georgia voter checks

Federal judges have ordered Georgia elections officials to stop using Social Security numbers and driver's licenses to check voters' immigration status until the U.S. Justice Department decides whether to approve the process.

Georgia is one of several states that needs federal approval before changing election policy because of a history of discriminatory voting practices.

The three-judge panel's 27-page ruling Monday orders Georgia officials to make "diligent and immediate" efforts to notify voters who have been flagged as ineligible.

It also blocks the state from removing flagged names from voter lists unless voters say in writing that they are ineligible.

News Orgs Investigate Possibly Fatal McCain '64 Car Crash

For the past two months, a major American magazine and an allied news service have been engaged in a legal battle with the United States Navy over records that they believe show that John McCain once was involved in an automobile accident that injured or, perhaps, killed another individual.

Vanity Fair magazine and the National Security News Service claim to have knowledge "developed from first-hand sources" of a car crash that involved then-Lt. McCain at the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, according to legal filings. The incident has been largely, if not entirely, kept from the public. And in documents suing the Navy to release pertinent information, lawyers for the NS News Service allege that a cover-up may be at play.

Weld backs Obama

Former Governor William Weld of Massachusetts is the latest Republican to cross over and support Democrat Barack Obama for president.

Weld held a press conference in Salem, N.H. to announce his endorsement. While Massachusetts is a slam dunk for Obama, neighboring New Hampshire is a competitive state.

"Senator Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate who will transform our politics and restore America's standing in the world," Weld said in a statement. "We need a president who will lead based on our common values and Senator Obama demonstrates an ability to unite and inspire. Throughout this campaign I've watched his steady leadership through trying times and I'm confident he is the best candidate to move our country forward."

Weld supported former Bay State Governor Mitt Romney during the Republican primaries.

Let's count the hits she's taken in the past 24 hours:

* There's her $150,000 wardrobe. It's hard to run as Joan of Six Pack when your wardrobe alone almost qualifies for an Obama tax increase. (Even when you're a millionaire, anyway.)

* Sarah Palin, constitutional scholar, resurfaced this week when she was asked about what her job would be as vice president. The veep, she said, is "in charge of" the U.S. Senate and "can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes." Umm. Shouldn't someone have explained to her by now what the vice president does? The vice breaks ties in the Senate. That's it. Being a Washington outsider is fine, but being a constitutional ignoramus is another matter entirely.

* The AP reports today that Palin charged Alaska for her kids to travel with her, even when they weren't conducting official state business. Palin might have bilked the state? I'm shocked. (Hey—speaking of state rules, her new wardrobe qualifies as a gift, right? She'll have to declare it in her next ethics report per Alaska law, right?)

* Then there's yesterday's Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, which showed that Palin's lack of qualifications to be president is voters' No. 1 concern regarding John McCain. She's an even bigger drag than is George W. Bush. Wow.

Palin supports federal gay marriage ban

In my own state, I have voted, along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote, to amend our constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that's where we would go, because I don't support gay marriage. You know, I'm not going to be up there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment, telling them what they can and can't do, or should and should not do, but I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage, and that's casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage. That instrument, it's the foundation of our society ...that strong family, and that's based on that traditional definition of marriage.

McCain Pledges to Bring Up Ayers in Debate

It appears Sen. John McCain will take Sen. Barack Obama up on his challenge.

In an interview on a St. Louis radio station, McCain said Obama's comments that "I didn't have the guts" to talk about William Ayers in the last presidential debate have "probably ensured" that the former 1960s radical will come up in Wednesday's debate.

Ooh...This is going to be fun!

A Majority In Connecticut Poll Backs Gay Marriage Ruling

Best cautioned that the poll did not ask anything about a question on the state ballot on Election Day about whether the state should hold a constitutional convention. That question appears on the ballot every 20 years. But it is particularly timely this year because opponents of gay marriage are urging a "yes" vote in the hope that the convention would allow for direct initiative. Under that scenario, all voters could cast ballots in a statewide referendum on whether Connecticut should allow gay marriage.

But both proponents and opponents said the Nov. 4 question is only the first step in a multipronged process that might never lead to a statewide vote on gay marriage. Delegates would need a two-thirds vote from the Democrat-controlled legislature to gain a seat at the convention, and then those delegates would decide which issues would be addressed. They could decide, for example, to avoid talking about gay marriage at all.

I'm not surprised.

McCain Also Palls Around With Terrorists

We all know about Obama's connection to infamous domestic terrorist, William Ayers. Yes, Obama sat on a board with the guy earlier in his career (specifically, the terrorist group is known in some circles as The Chicago Annenberg Challenge, funded by the Annenberg Foundation).

Now, while we can certainly blame Obama for not preventing a terrorist from carrying out acts on us while he was 8 years old, what must also be just as fair to McCain?

As you may know, McCain's own camp recently released a list of 100 former ambassadors endorsing him.

Number two on that list is Leonore Annenberg.

Intrigued?

Well she is the chair of the Annenberg Foundation, the funders of the terrorist cell known as The Chicago Annenberg Challenge. You read that right. The same group which that terrorist William Ayers works on.

So this is it in a nutshell:

As an eight year old boy, Barack Hussein Obama committed the atrocity of preventing horrendous domestic terrorist attacks on our homeland.

As a seventy-two year old man, John McCain is accepting support from a known terrorist funding operation.

With both leading candidates now being proven to be known terrorist sympathizers, I think it is clear that America The Great is completely screwed.

I smell a conspiracy.

CT High Court Grants Gay Marriage Rights

The Supreme Court released its historic ruling at 11:30 a.m. Citing the equal protection clause of the state constitution, the justices ruled that civil unions were discriminatory and that the state's "understanding of marriage must yield to a more contemporary appreciation of the rights entitled to constitutional protection."

"Interpreting our state constitutional provisions in accordance with firmly established equal protection principles leads inevitably to the conclusion that gay persons are entitled to marry the otherwise qualified same sex partner of their choice," the majority wrote. "To decide otherwise would require us to apply one set of constitutional principles to gay persons and another to all others."

Wow! I didn't expect this, but I am happy about it.

Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC. The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

According to Fontaine, the real "original maverick" was her grandfather, Maury Maverick, "a radical politician from San Antonio who served two terms in Congress (1935-1939). McCain's Ayers Attacks Backfire

Sarah Palin was on the verge of inciting a race riot in northern Florida yesterday. At her rallies, the Republican faithful hurled a racial epitaph at a black sound man, and screamed "kill him" and "treason!" at Barack Obama.

"Boy, you guys just get it!" Palin responded. This reaction, presumably, was what Palin had in mind when she urged John McCain to "take the gloves off."

The McCain campaign initially took her advice, sending out three emails about Obama and Bill Ayers yesterday and pushing the angle hard on the news media. But by the time McCain got to debating, he made no mention of Ayers or Jeremiah Wright or Tony Rezko. For once, McCain knew better. His campaign looked supremely silly the day before, ranting about domestic terrorists from the 1960s when the Dow was plunging 800 points.

What did McCain mean when he called Obama 'that one'?

A growing perception that Republican presidential candidate John McCain is outright disdainful of having to share a stage with -- let alone losing to -- Barack Obama is gaining more traction after McCain dismissively referred to his opponent as "that one" during Tuesday's debate.

Andrew Sullivan pronounced it "the moment the contempt spilled over."

Crooks and Liars Nicole Belle wonder if McCain was "going to yell at him to get off his lawn next."

I also thought it was pretty offensive to tell an audience member that "you probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddy Mac."

Give me a break! The guy is one of a select few attending a presidential debate, and asking an economic question. I'm willing to wager that he is engaged enough to have at least heard of those two companies before this economic mess hit.

Palin Out Of The Loop On Decision To Pull Out Of Michigan

"Well, that's not a surprise because, you know, the polls are showing we're not doing as well there evidently as we would like to," Palin said. "But I read that this morning also. I fired off a quick email and said `Oh, come on, you know, do we have to? Do we have to call it there?'"

How sequestered from her campaign's workings is Palin, anyway? To be fair, she has been holed up in debate prep for days. But still, this was a major, major campaign decision. It's odd that she appeared to have heard nothing about it, let alone having been in any sort of discussions about it.

Netflix promises Mac video support by end of year

Netflix on Wednesday promised to release a product by the end of the year which will enable Mac users to use the service’s “Watch Instantly” feature.

Netflix is best known for its DVD rental service, which enables users to manage an online queue using a Web site. For a flat monthly rate, the company mails you DVDs or Blu-ray Discs, which you then watch and return without worrying about late fees.

During your debate with Senator Biden you said you welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with the American people, "uncensored" by the media. That sounds great. In fact, I'd like to challenge you to a debate: one regular American, me, versus you, the Governor of Alaska.

I mean a genuine debate, where we exchange ideas back and forth, and we are each expected to actually answer the questions asked by the moderator. Not like anyone would want to know what I have to say, but this would give you a real chance to talk directly to the American people (instead of being badgered by pesky reporters like Katie Couric!).

On PBS, Cokie Roberts falsely suggested Biden's reference to "Bosniaks" was a gaffe

During coverage of the October 2 vice-presidential debate on PBS' Charlie Rose, Rose asked, "Did either of them make any mistakes that you noticed?" National Public Radio senior news analyst Cokie Roberts responded that Sen. Joe Biden "talked about the Bosniaks." Roberts later said: "[I]f [Gov. Sarah Palin] had said 'Bosniak,' everybody would be making a big deal of it, you know." In fact, Biden correctly referred to certain residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina as Bosniaks. According to the U.S. State Department, as of 2002, the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina consisted of the following ethnic groups: "Bosniak 48.3%, Serb 34.0%, Croat 15.4%, others 2.3%."

Sarah Palin blunders over talks with British ambassador that never took place

Sarah Palin has committed yet another political blunder after claiming she had held talks with a British ambassador - talks that never actually took place.

In an answer to questions about her foreign policy experience ahead of tonight's make-or-break vice presidential TV debate, her aides listed numerous contacts with foreign officials - including Britain's ambassador to Washington, Sir Nigel Sheinwald.

However the meeting never occurred. Officials at the embassy swiftly contacted the McCain-Palin campaign to inform them of the discrepancy.

A British Embassy spokesman said the error arose after Sir Nigel's name was listed among those who had attended a US Governor's meeting in July.

NBC: 5 of 7 have less favorable view of Palin after debate

A CBS poll of 473 uncommitted voters produced equivalent, if less dramatic, results. In an incomplete tally on Thursday night, 46 percent said Biden had won the debate -- compared to 21% who thought Palin had won -- and 18% said they were now committed to the Obama-Biden ticket.

In a CNN poll of voters in general, not only did Biden outscore Palin by 51% to 36%, but almost half of those who felt Palin had exceeded expectations still believed she was not qualified to be president.

I initially thought that she wasn't the train wreck I expected, while firmly believing Biden won. In other words, I figured this debate turned into a non-issue for either campaign.

Then, after watching Olbermann, I think I have to agree that she was a train wreck. I'm glad the polls seem to agree.
