Romney Strapped Dog to Car Roof

The move prompted a Republican Congressman to ask whether Cheney would get a 'Katrina trailer' in place of his official residence.
"I offer a simple amendment that bars the executive branch from being used to fund an office that does not exist in the executive branch, the Office of the Vice President," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), Chairman of the Democratic Caucus, who introduced the amendment. "There have been 46 vice presidents in US history, and not one of them...ever claimed [that the vice president was not part of the executive branch]."
Pointing to a four-part series that ran in this week's Washington Post on Cheney's role in the presidency of George W. Bush, Emanuel assailed the vice president for having too much power.
"Rather than claiming that he wasn't part of the executive branch...it sounds like he is the executive branch," the Illinois Democrat said. "There is no Cheney branch of government...He been held unaccountable for six years, and now he wants to be held unaccountable in the historical record."
Emanuel's amendment moved to cut all funding to the Vice President's executive office, as well as the funds for his residence.

New Poll Finds That Young Americans Are Leaning Left

A GOP Plan To Oust Cheney
quote[The big question right now among Republicans is how to remove Vice President Cheney from office. Even before this week's blockbuster series in The Post, discontent in Republican ranks was rising.
As the reputed architect of the war in Iraq, Cheney is viewed as toxic, and as the administration's leading proponent of an attack on Iran, he is seen as dangerous. As long as he remains vice president, according to this thinking, he has the potential to drag down every member of the party -- including the presidential nominee -- in next year's elections.
Removing a sitting vice president is not easy, but this may be the moment. I remember Barry Goldwater sitting in my parents' living room in 1973, in the last days of Watergate, debating whether to lead a group of senior Republicans to the White House to tell President Nixon he had to go. His hesitation was that he felt loyalty to the president and the party. But in the end he felt a greater loyalty to his country, and he went to the White House.
Today, another group of party elders, led by Sen. John Warner of Virginia, could well do the same. They could act out of concern for our country's plummeting reputation throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East.]

It wasn’t that he wanted to protect Massachusetts’ reputation. He wanted to protect the country from what he regarded as Massachusetts’ folly. For that purpose Romney unearthed a 1913 law that said couples couldn’t be married here unless the unions would be legal in their home states.
Frankly, I rather fancied the idea of Massachusetts as the new Vegas. What happens here stays here. At about the same time, Britney Spears explained her 55-hour marriage to a childhood friend by saying, “I do believe in the sanctity of marriage, I totally do. But I was in Vegas and it took over me.”
I can’t imagine an Elvis impersonator driving a pink Cadillac of to-be-weds up Beacon Hill, nor do I equate the push for marriage equality with the quickie wedding. But I can envision a Paul Revere character ushering couples into Old North Church or a Minuteman welcoming them on the Lexington Green. Like, totally. I was in Lexington and it took me over.]

It's about time this happened. It really doesn't matter where you go for your undergraduate degree and, in most cases, the quality of education you get depends upon how hard you work.

Kerry asks compassion in immigration case of soldier's wife
quote[Sen. John Kerry on Wednesday urged U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials not to deport the wife of a Massachusetts soldier missing in Iraq, calling it a "test of our government's compassion" for service members and their families.
"It just strikes me as unbelievably inappropriate and indecent for the wife of a current, second-tour Purple Heart winner who is now missing in action to be living under this kind of cloud," Kerry, D-Mass., said in a conference call with reporters.
Army Spec. Alex Jimenez of Lawrence, who has been missing since his unit was attacked by insurgents in Iraq on May 12, had petitioned for a green card for his wife, Yaderlin, whom he married in 2004, Boston television station WBZ-TV reported on Tuesday. The soldier's wife is living with family members in Pennsylvania, the station reported.
Kerry wrote a letter asking Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff not to take any further steps in Yaderlin Jimenez's case until her husband is found.]
Here's an update for all the people who have expressed interest in this story (thanks for the emails). I too am outraged by this, and so I urge everyone who's equally outraged to write their senators and congressmen and urge them to take action to protect her.
Just so you know, if they do deport her the law requires that she can't reapply for entry for at least ten years!

Support for candidate goes through the roof
quote[One Lawrence man believes the national media are ignoring his presidential candidate of choice.
So for a few days he’s using a neighborhood rooftop to drum up support for Republican Congressman Ron Paul, of Texas.
On Sunday, William Burlbaw, a painter and handyman, sprayed “Vote Ron Paul President 08” with white latex exterior paint in three places on the shingles that face the street from the home he uses as a mailing address at 1003 W. 20th Terrace.
The roof is getting replaced Wednesday; the home’s owner is his friend Dana Barnett, who gave Burlbaw permission to use the house as a political message board for a few days.
“The more people that know about this man, the more chance we’ve got of getting our constitutional rights back,” said Burlbaw, a critic of President Bush who says he’s an independent.]
There's one visitor to this site, I suspect, who will enjoy this post.

Navy vet: Chaplains tried converting me

Romney: Since Mass. won't let people vote against gay marriage, we need a federal amendment
quote[CNN reported on Friday that "a proposed constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman will not make it on the ballot in Massachusetts."
They then showed Mitt Romney objecting that "they could either take the decision away from the people or they could give the decision to the people, and the state legislature of Massachusetts decided to not allow the people to vote on the definition of marriage."

Cheney Misstates Military Oath
quote[Am I the only one who noticed? I hope not. But just in case, let me note that Vice President Dick Cheney made a huge misstatement to his West Point audience on May 26. I hope that, at a minimum, the West Point history majors noticed it. Near the end of his speech at the United States Military Academy commencement, Mr. Cheney stated:
"On your first day of Army life, each one of you raised your right hand and took an oath. And you will swear again today to defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That is your vow, that is the business you're in."
Well, not quite. Here is the actual oath that newly minted officers in the U.S. Army take:
"I (insert name), having been appointed a (insert rank) in the U.S. Army under the conditions indicated in this document, do accept such appointment and do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God."
Notice the difference? Mr. Cheney claims that U.S. Army officers vow to defend the United States, but as the oath quoted above shows, they don't. Instead, they vow to defend the U.S. Constitution. As a former student of mine, an officer in the U.S. military, said, "Professor, isn't it interesting that our highest obligation is not to protect the United States but, instead, is to protect the U.S. Constitution?" Yes, it is interesting.]
That's because he doesn't give a rat's ass about the constitution.

Al Gore against any attempt to impeach Bush

As much as it pains me, I have to agree with him.

I am absolutely outraged over this. First, Bush won't attend a single funeral. Then, the GOP tries to cut funding for the VA. Now, we can't even give the proper honor to those who have died????
